Zenless Zone Zero 3.2 Shiyu Defense room 3: a third DPS or a dedicated stun slot (two-column table + 3 tests)

ZZZ 3.2 Shiyu Defense: laying the two routes out
A means stacking a third damage dealer in room 3. B means keeping one slot for a dedicated stun unit. The difference isn't who hits harder. It's where you put the risk You can also check the Intensity Rankings for Zone Zero.
Route A: a third damage dealer
A profits from burst inside the stun window. Three damage dealers rotating through windows deals more total damage than B on paper, but those windows have to be created with dodges and counters, so consistency rides entirely on execution.
Route B: a dedicated stun slot
B profits from order. The stun unit pins the shield down while damage dealers work inside the window, so windows arrive on a schedule and a wipe costs you less. You pay for it with a lower damage ceiling.

ZZZ 3.2 Shiyu Defense: the A/B comparison table
This table is the full comparison. Don't commit before you've read every row.
| Row | A: third damage dealer | B: dedicated stun |
|---|---|---|
| Damage ceiling | Higher, one extra rotation per window | Slightly lower, gives up some stat ceiling |
| Window consistency | Rides on dodge counters, execution-heavy | Arrives on schedule, predictable count |
| Investment floor | High, damage dealers must break shields themselves | Medium, a level 50 stun unit clears it |
| Cost of a wipe | Full restart | Usually one rating tier |
| Who it suits | Overinvested damage dealers who can break shields | Players missing a stun unit, sitting at level 40–50 |
| When not to pick it | Nobody in the team can break shields reliably | You already have a second single-target stun unit |
Where the damage ceiling actually differs
It's about total damage inside windows. Three damage dealers rotating through windows get one extra burst rotation on paper, but a single missed window cancels that rotation out.
Why the consistency row decides it
The trade-off reason: the wipe penalties aren't symmetrical. An A wipe is a full restart; a B wipe usually costs one rating tier. Take the lower ceiling with the reliable window, and that's the one rule worth remembering if you're short a stun unit.

ZZZ 3.2 Shiyu Defense: 3 tests and 2 places to stop
With the table read, three tests settle it.
Test one: read this room's buff text first
If the buff leans into chain attacks and stun, B beats A. If it dumps raw damage, A is worth it. The patch notes don't list per-room buff values, so treat the in-game cycle as the source here.
Test two: count who can break shields
If one of your damage dealers already breaks shields, A's consistency problem disappears and you should prefer A. If the stun unit is your only shield breaker, you have to keep B, or the window never opens.
Test three: check the stun unit's level
If your stun unit sits at level 40 or 50 and can't hold position, this isn't an A-or-B question. Level it first. At that investment floor, both routes wipe.

Stop one: neither route when the gap is too wide
If your investment gap is huge, or your client isn't updated to 3.2 yet, walking in just burns resources. Level up first, or update first.
Stop two: B when it's redundant
If you already have a second single-target stun unit, adding a dedicated stun slot is doubling up, and that's the wrong fix. Swap that slot for a support or buffer and your return is higher.

ZZZ 3.2 Shiyu Defense: the questions that come up most (FAQ)
How much investment does room 3 need for full stars?
A: If you're missing a stun unit, push it past level 50 before entering; if your damage dealers are overinvested, route A is fine as-is .
Clare and Roxy: who do I build first?
A: Missing a stun unit? Build Roxy (Wind, Stun), who stabilizes the window. Already have a dedicated stun unit? Build Clare (Electric, Attack) for damage .
How much free stuff does 3.2 hand out?
A: Logging in for 7 days grants 10 Encrypted Master Tapes ("Fresh Broadcast") and 10 Boopon ("Out of Thin Air"), 10 of each.
Can I full-star it without the new characters?
A: Yes. Room 3 checks stun windows and buff text, not the new units. Returning Nangong Yu (Ether, Stun) covers the slot.
How many S-rank W-Engines does 3.2 add?
A: 2: Crimson Craving (Attack) and Silver Coffin of the Scarlet Moon (Stun) .

Scope note: version, character and reward details come from the 3.2 official patch notes and the official preview (first- and second-party). The ZZZ site is JS-rendered and per-room buff values aren't published, so nothing is guessed. Character write-ups for this version live on gghubs.com's Zenless Zone Zero section.

Pushing towers first, then field bosses, then the World Tree saves the most time.
