Azur Promilia is a free-to-play creature-companionship fantasy RPG from the studio behind Azur Lane. Yostar publishes in Japan, Nexon in South Korea, JIMI in Taiwan, and Manjuu runs mainland China itself. The same four markets go live on the same day, while English players and the PlayStation 5 build wait until summer 2027 — a gap of at least six months.
一、 The launch details, verified
Here is what is confirmed by the publisher and by Gematsu's October 23 report:
| Market | Launch | Platforms | Publisher |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mainland China | 2026-11-26 | PC / iOS / Android | Manjuu |
| Japan | 2026-11-26 | PC / iOS / Android | Yostar |
| South Korea | 2026-11-26 | PC / iOS / Android | Nexon |
| Taiwan | 2026-11-26 | PC / iOS / Android | JIMI |
| English release and PS5 | Summer 2027 open beta window | PS5 and others | Unannounced |
Pre-registration is live on App Store and Google Play in Japan and Taiwan, with the Galaxy Store added in Korea and TapTap in mainland China.
One detail stands out: mainland China is self-published, while the other three markets go to the strongest local partner in each.
二、What 25 million pre-registrations actually measure
17173 reported on October 21 that global pre-registrations passed 25 million and unlocked the character Anais; the release date was announced two days later (17173, October 21, 2026).
Twenty-five million puts Azur Promilia in the top tier of anime-game launches, but the number measures intent to tap a button, not intent to stay.
Pre-registration is not retention
A pre-registration count proves three things: the art direction reads well, the premise reads well, and the publisher can buy traffic. It proves nothing about whether the loop holds players past week two.
Anime games have a consistent pattern here. The bigger the pre-registration number, the higher the first-month expectations, and the more closely the launch content gets audited. A launch window's word of mouth usually matters more to a game's lifespan than the pre-registration total.
三、Why East Asia goes first
Korea was locked to Nexon in December 2025 (36Kr, December 14, 2025), and Japan was confirmed as a joint publishing arrangement with Yostar alongside the Korea and Taiwan deals (17173, December 15, 2025).
So the November 26 date is less "we finally finished" and more "publishing, payments, support and compliance are all in place."
The commercial logic is straightforward: anime-style spending converts best in Japan, Korea and Taiwan; the creature-collecting and character-collection combination already has an educated audience there; and one time zone and one support stack keeps operating costs down.
四、 The English version waits until summer 2027
A developer letter says the English version is targeting a summer 2027 open beta, with PlayStation 5, PC, iOS and Android all in active development (Gematsu, October 23, 2026).
From November 26 to summer 2027 is at least six months.
What six months buys
Localisation quality, cheaper user acquisition and a more stable build. Running East Asia first produces real retention and monetisation curves, which then inform how much the western launch is worth spending on. It also means English players start on a patched version rather than a day-one one.
The cost is real too: those six months are time for other anime games to take root in the same audience.
五、Creature collecting, open world, anime — the hybrid bet
Manjuu describes Azur Promilia as a creature-companionship fantasy world RPG. That combination is unusual: creature collecting carries the Palworld-style loop, the open world carries Genshin-scale production costs, and the anime cast carries the gacha base.
The differentiation is obvious — the market has open worlds, but very few where the creatures are the point.
The risk sits in the same place. Collecting depth comes from volume and combinations, and every catchable creature needs models, animations, skills and balance work. It is the classic design where content cost scales linearly with the fantasy.
六、Three unknowns after the third closed beta
The third closed beta opened on September 17, and hands-on reports from the September test called the build "genuinely close" (3DM, September 13, 2026). Close and good are different things.
- Long-term content supply. Creature games fear the moment players finish collecting. Neither the launch roster size nor the update cadence has been published in verifiable form.
- Nexon's control in Korea. A single-publisher deal means Korean pacing is set locally, and divergence on version timing and event design is a long-term variable.
- Crowded window. Late November is peak season for anime games, and player time and wallets are finite.
七、My take: publishing-first is the new gacha playbook
What matters here is not the 25 million number. It is the publishing structure: development at Manjuu, three of the four launch markets handed to the strongest local partner, and the English build deliberately pushed back six months.
That is a clear-eyed approach. Validate the monetisation model in the market that best understands the art direction, then use the data to negotiate resources abroad.
The old Chinese anime-game playbook was global simultaneous launch, and global simultaneous failure. Manjuu has split the schedule, which is an admission the industry rarely makes out loud: content can be global, operations cannot.
Once the servers open, we will test the collecting loop, the first month's content volume, and the version gap between Korea and China on GameHub. Will you clear space on your phone for it? Tell us in the comments.
