About Elden Ring

Overview
Elden Ring is an action RPG developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, released worldwide on 25 February 2022 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. It was directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, with the worldbuilding and mythology provided by American fantasy author George R. R. Martin. The game is set in the Lands Between, a realm once ruled by Queen Marika and her divine offspring; after the Elden Ring was shattered, the land fell into decay and its inhabitants were left without order. Players control a customisable Tarnished — an exile who has regained the guidance of Grace — on a quest to repair the Elden Ring and rise as the new Elden Lord. Its design pairs a vast, freely explorable open world of sweeping fields, underground depths and treacherous dungeons with punishing boss encounters that reward careful reading of enemy patterns and patient build-crafting. In Elden Ring, players venture across vast open landscapes and delve into sprawling underground dungeons to uncover the unknown, brave formidable perils at every turn, and experience an ensemble drama woven from the conflicting interests and stakes of its rich cast of characters. Since launch the game has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and received the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. On 28 August 2026 the Tarnished Edition launched on Nintendo Switch 2, bundling the 2022 base game, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, new armour sets and customisation options for Torrent's appearance; the additional content is also sold separately on other platforms as the Tarnished Pack DLC.

- Wuthering Waves — also Open World, Action RPG
Wuthering Waves is an open-world action RPG developed by Kuro Games and released globally in May 2024, with overseas publishing handled by HK KURO GAMES LIMITED. Players wake from slumber as the Rover, joined by a vibrant cast of Resonators, on a journey to reclaim lost memories and, in the process, change the world. The setting is the post-apocalyptic world of Solaris-3, shaped by an event known as the Lament: former creations and earthly beings left static, humanity risen anew from the ashes of the apocalypse. The combat system is the game's clearest point of differentiation. It emphasises fast, chained attacks alongside precise defensive mechanics — dodge timing and parry windows — rewarding mechanical execution rather than pure stat inflation. Characters have branching skill trees and a Resonance system, and elemental interactions add a tactical layer on top of the action layer. The result is a system with genuine execution depth, unusual for the genre, where a well-timed dodge can matter more than a marginal gear upgrade. Exploration is built around a seamless open world supporting climbing, gliding, and parkour traversal across vertical terrain. The map contains puzzle mechanisms, world quests, and Echo collectibles — Echoes serve double duty as stat sources and as modifiers to a character's combat abilities, linking exploration directly to progression rather than treating the two as separate systems. Content cadence has been steady since launch, with regular additions of new regions, characters, and main-story chapters. Version 3.7.0, Prism's Illusion, Heart's Illumination, launched across all platforms on September 30, 2026.
- Genshin Impact — also Open World, Action RPG
Genshin Impact is a free-to-play open-world action RPG developed and published by miHoYo, and distributed outside mainland China under its international brand HoYoverse. It launched worldwide on 28 September 2020 for Windows, PlayStation 4, Android and iOS, later arriving on PlayStation 5 in 2021 and Xbox Series X|S in 2024; a native HarmonyOS NEXT build followed in September 2025. The game is set in Teyvat, a fantasy continent ruled by seven elemental gods known as the Archons. Players take the role of the Traveler, who sets out to discover what happened to a lost sibling and uncovers the mysteries of this unfamiliar land along the way. Combat revolves around seven elements and real-time character switching, allowing party members to trigger elemental reactions against enemies. Exploration spans regions with distinct cultures and terrain, and a cross-platform co-op mode lets up to four players adventure together once they reach Adventure Rank 16. The game is monetised through gacha character and weapon banners and is expanded continuously on a live-service schedule with new cities, story chapters, characters and seasonal events. One practical note for players on older hardware: PlayStation 4 support was removed in April 2026, so the game now requires PS5, PC, Xbox Series X|S or a supported mobile device.
- Palworld — also Open World
Palworld is a multiplayer open-world survival crafting game developed and published by the Japanese studio Pocketpair. It entered Early Access on 19 January 2024 for Windows via Steam and the Microsoft Store, plus Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, arriving day one on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. Set on the Palpagos Islands, the game blends creature collection, third-person shooter combat, base management and factory automation. Players capture Pals using spheres, then deploy them in combat, put them to work farming and crafting, or automate production lines inside their bases. Multiplayer supports up to 32 players. The launch was one of the most striking in recent PC history: Palworld sold one million copies within its first eight hours and reached 2,101,867 concurrent players on Steam — the second-highest figure the platform has ever recorded. Palworld rose to viral fame for its delightful contrast between adorable Pals working for players and gun-toting adventures. Boasting freeform gameplay and a laid-back pace, it is a smash-hit survival title that blends casual enjoyment with strategic depth. It came to PlayStation 5 on 24 September 2024 and macOS on 4 March 2025. Palworld left Early Access on 10 July 2026 with version 1.100.427, which Pocketpair calls the biggest update in the game's history: 72 new Pals for a total of 287, the Sunreach floating sky islands, the World Tree main-story endgame region, a level cap raised from 65 to 80, new Awakening and Mutation systems, and a wide rework of combat, bases, quests and balance. The 1.0 update was free for existing owners, and the price has remained $29.99 throughout.
- Zenless Zone Zero — also Action RPG
Zenless Zone Zero is an urban-fantasy action RPG developed by HoYoverse and released globally in July 2024. The setting is New Eridu, a near-future metropolis partially consumed by Hollows — dangerous spatial anomalies containing Ether resources, bizarre creations, and the ruins of old civilisation, but equally characterised by spatial disorder, monsters, and mutants. Ordinary people are not meant to go into Hollows at all — those who must go need a Proxy, a specialist capable of guiding them out of the labyrinthine interiors. The player is one such Proxy, cooperating with agent factions such as the Cunning Hares to take on commissions. Unlike HoYoverse's earlier titles, this game makes urban street culture its core aesthetic rather than a decorative layer. Character design, interface motion, and the soundtrack — drawing on hip-hop and electronic influences — all carry a pronounced street sensibility, and cutscenes frequently use comic-panel framing and dynamic typography. The overall effect is a more contemporary and more abrasive visual identity than the studio's other releases, aimed at a somewhat different audience. Combat is built around high-speed chaining. Players field three-character squads and link basic attacks, special attacks, ultimates, and Chain Attacks into fluid combos, with instant character switching to trigger coordinated effects. The pace is notably faster than the studio's other titles and emphasises feel and split-second decision-making over long-term planning. Structurally, the game organises content around commissions, complemented by a roguelike-style Hollow exploration mode, giving it a dual track of main story plus repeatable endgame content. The Phase II content went live on September 30, introducing S-rank Agents Roxy and Promeia as well as their corresponding limited-time banners. This is an in-version content update, and the main client version remains unchanged at 3.2 without a new major version iteration.
- Counter-Strike 2
Counter-Strike 2 is a free-to-play competitive first-person shooter developed and published by Valve, released on 27 September 2023 as a free upgrade that directly replaced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on Steam. It is not a separate sequel sitting alongside the older title — CS2 took CS:GO's place, so players cannot return to the previous version, though their existing inventory and items carried over into the new client. Counter-Strike 2 carries forward the classic counter-terrorist versus terrorist gameplay, featuring modes including Competitive, Casual and Deathmatch, and built with the Dynamic Smoke System and Sub-Tick architecture. The game runs on the Source 2 engine, which Valve describes as the largest technical leap forward in Counter-Strike's history, and its maps were rebuilt from the ground up on the new technology. The headline competitive addition is Premier mode: an Active Duty pick-and-ban ruleset that produces a visible CS Rating, which determines a player's standing on global and regional leaderboards. Premier matches can be played solo or queued with friends, so players can climb the ranking together. Alongside Premier, the familiar competitive and casual playlists remain, keeping the series' signature 5v5 bomb-defusal format — terrorists attempting to plant and detonate a bomb while counter-terrorists try to stop them — at the centre of the experience. Valve earns revenue through in-game items and accessories rather than charging for the game itself, and the title continues to receive regular updates and map rotations.
- Fortnite
Fortnite is an online multiplayer title developed by Epic Games that blends third-person shooter action with building mechanics. It features both PvP and PvE modes, and boasts a global player base of over 200 million. It started life as Fortnite: Save the World, a player-versus-environment base-building title that entered early access on 25 July 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The mode that turned Fortnite into a global phenomenon, however, was Fortnite Battle Royale, which Epic made free for everyone on 26 September 2017 across PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Mac. Battle Royale drops 100 players onto a single map from the battle bus, combining intense PvP combat with destructible environments and the series' signature building mechanics; the last player or squad standing wins. Epic has committed never to sell items that grant a competitive advantage, monetising through cosmetic outfits and battle passes instead, and the game evolves through regular seasonal updates. Beyond Battle Royale, the Fortnite ecosystem now hosts more than 345,000 games built by third-party developers using Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), spanning genres from racing and deathruns to horror and tycoon games. On 19 March 2026, Fortnite returned to Google Play worldwide, launching alongside the Fortnite Showdown Battle Royale season; it is also available through the Epic Games Store on Android devices worldwide and on iOS devices in the European Union.
- Honkai: Star Rail
Honkai: Star Rail is a space-fantasy turn-based RPG developed by HoYoverse and released in April 2023, the newest mainline entry in the Honkai series. Players board the Astral Express — a train travelling through the galaxy — and journey with their companions across multiple worlds, gradually encountering cosmic-scale concepts such as Aeons and Paths while being drawn into a conflict driven by the Stellaron and the hidden truths behind it. The series slogan, "May this journey lead us starward," sets the tone. The narrative structure differs noticeably from earlier entries in the series. Rather than following a single continuous setting, the game adopts a galactic road-trip format built from largely self-contained arcs: each stop of the Astral Express offers a distinct world, cast, and visual identity — among them a space station with sealed Curios, a foreign planet locked in eternal winter, a starship hunting abominations, a Planet of Festivities nested in sweet dreams, and an Eternal Land where destiny hangs by a thread. The volume of story content, supported by high-quality cutscenes and full voice acting, is widely regarded as a primary draw. Combat is a classic turn-based command system with substantial modification. The central mechanic is Weakness Break: attacking an enemy's weakness type reduces its Toughness, and once broken the enemy enters a Break state and takes additional damage, often enough to decide a fight. This produces a strategic layer around elemental matchups, speed tuning, and team rotation. Characters belong to one of seven Paths — role classifications roughly analogous to classes — and wield one of seven combat types, with Light Cones (weapons) and Relics (gear) systems providing further depth through stat and set-bonus combinations. On 28 September 2026 the official channels published the Version 4.6 update notes, "Before the Moon Rises, Dance with Beasts," along with optimisation and known-issues documentation.
- Arknights
Arknights is a strategy tower-defense RPG developed by Hypergryph, launched in mainland China in May 2019 and released internationally by Yostar in January 2020. It is one of the defining titles of the Chinese mobile gacha strategy genre, and remains widely referenced as a design benchmark years after launch. The story is set in the fictional world of Terra, where a catastrophe known as Oripathy has reshaped society. The player takes on the role of a key member of Rhodes Island, a pharmaceutical company fighting both a deadly infection and the unrest it leaves in its wake, recruiting and training Operators alongside the leader Amiya. Its gameplay innovation lies in the tower-defense combat model. Operators are deployed onto a grid, subject to melee/ranged and ground/elevated deployment restrictions, and a cost-accumulation system governs how quickly a defensive line can be established. Each Operator has unique skills and traits within one of eight classes. Stage design rewards planning around enemy routing, cost curves, and skill timing. The official description highlights "hundreds of unique Operators across a variety of classes," an Auto Deploy system for less demanding stages, and a Base construction system that lets players build out their own headquarters. The presentation is deliberately restrained and industrial in its design language, paired with unusually high music production values — Hypergryph works with professional music teams and stages live concerts — and a roster of well-known Japanese voice actors. The game has been continuously updated since launch — on 29 September 2026 the official site published a maintenance update notice alongside the limited-time event "Vector Breakthrough #3: Pseudoecology". The SideStory People, A People, which went live on September 12, is an in-version story event update. It only introduces event stages, related story content, limited operator headhunting banners and event rewards, while the main client version remains unchanged at 36.7.22.
