And that is where the trouble starts. Since 1.0, fishing has grown from a “tap twice on your way past” action into a system with a difficulty curve, a bait economy and its own settings menu. Yet most of the guides you pull up today are still written around pre-1.0 experience. Stockpile bait the old way, head straight for the World Tree out of habit, and come back empty-handed — chances are it is not your hands that are the problem.Palworld base locations have to be adapted to it as well.
So this piece steers clear of breeding and ignores bases entirely. It is about fishing.

Palworld 1.0.5 Fishing at a Glance: Every Change Actually Came in v1.0.4
Here are the five v1.0.4 changes, listed the way the patch notes put them: adjusted fishing difficulty at fishing spots in Sunreach and the World Tree; adjusted the number of items each bait yields on a successful catch; added and adjusted the on-screen instructions, warning display and recommended-gear display; added the world setting “Fish behavior in the fishing minigame”; adjusted Lapure's swim speed.
Read one at a time they look like five separate items. Put together, they are one system: the fishing spot decides where you fish, the bait decides what you fish with, the prompts and settings decide how you fish, and Lapure decides how you get there. Miss one and a piece of the experience goes missing — which is exactly why people who only remember “they changed the difficulty” still end up feeling that something is off.
The “recommended-gear display” and the “on-screen instructions” are the two most beginner-friendly items in this batch, and in our view the two most valuable. The fishing minigame used to give you essentially no feedback — you learned when a fish would bite and when to reel in by blanking again and again. Now the interface tells you what gear to bring and when to pull. For anyone sitting down to fish seriously for the first time, those two carry more weight than any number tweak. A number change you have to work out yourself; a prompt is handed to you on screen.。
As for v1.0.5, the announcement is short and covers the two items mentioned at the start: textures loading at a markedly lower resolution, and map icon filters being switched off after respawn. The version number says 1.0.5, but the scale of the content is a hotfix. Do not expect gameplay changes — it simply puts the visuals and the map back to how they should look.

Palworld Fishing Spots: Sunreach and the World Tree Called Out by Name
v1.0.4 named two regions specifically: Sunreach and the World Tree. Fishing difficulty at the spots in both was rebalanced.
Why those two in particular? Both are maps added in 1.0, and when they first went live the water difficulty sat on the low side. Player feedback was remarkably consistent: you kept pulling up the same handful of fish. The v1.0.4 adjustment was aimed squarely at that.
So which way did the difficulty move? The notes give no figures, only “adjusted fishing difficulty”. In practice the direction reads as “rare fish demand more precise inputs”: the same technique that clears a basic water zone will let you down in these two regions. So learn the feel in the starting waters first, then carry your bait into Sunreach and the World Tree for the rare catches. Do it the other way round and you will mostly burn bait and collect a bad mood.
The official notes publish neither species lists nor drop rates, so this guide will not invent them. If you want the exact species, check the prompt beside the fishing spot in game, or look it up in Palpedia — both beat any second-hand table.

Palworld Bait and Catch: Baits Are No Longer Interchangeable
Where to fish settled, the next question is what to fish with. v1.0.4 quietly reworded a single line: “the number of items obtained per successful catch for each bait”. The operative words are “each bait” — output is now split out per bait type and counted separately.
Which means the most expensive option is not necessarily the best value. Premium and basic baits used to differ mainly in success rate; now output quantity has been separated out too, and “stockpile the priciest bait” stops holding up. Why? Because the best bait for farming materials and the best bait for rare fish are simply not the same one, and averaging the two flattens two separate return curves into a single line nobody can read.
So how do you decide which bait to use? Watch two numbers: success rate and yield per catch. Draw up a small table, fill in both values for every bait, and whichever returns the most per unit of time will float to the top. Since 1.0.4 those two variables no longer move together, so they have to be measured separately — picking on feel will keep you wrong indefinitely.

Palworld Fishing Settings and Support Systems: Fish Behavior, Lapure and Campfires
With bait settled, one layer remains: the things that do not decide whether a fish bites, but very much decide whether you can stand to keep sitting there.
First, fish behavior. v1.0.4 added a “Fish behavior in the fishing minigame” option under World Settings, which controls how fish move during the minigame. The notes do not list the available values, so what you can set depends on your own world's options. In single-player, tune it to taste; on a multiplayer server the admin sets it for everyone. This is the item most likely to cause friction online, so settle it before the server opens and save everyone the argument later.
The same patch added a server setting that lets admins cap the number of structures per player. It is not directly about fishing, but it matters a great deal for a fishing base: water collection, cooking and storage facilities by the water all count as structures, and a low cap leaves your supply point with nowhere to spread.
Next, Lapure. v1.0.4 adjusted its swim speed. Pal travel over water has always been awkward: not many Pals can swim, and fewer still swim fast. Lapure being singled out suggests its role on water has shifted. If you spend a lot of time around waterways, it is worth another try — what if it now covers exactly the stretch of water you were missing?
The campfire line changed too. The same patch now reads “players, summoned Pals and base Pals no longer catch fire when touching a campfire built by a player”. For a waterside base this is enormously practical: previously you would build a campfire by the shore to cook, a Pal would wander past and catch alight, and you would spend longer putting out fires than fishing. Not any more.
Finally, Ancient Bark. v1.0.4 lowered the Gathering Work Suitability needed to harvest Ancient Bark to Lv.1. It looks entirely unrelated to fishing, but what it actually affects is whether a waterside base can be self-sufficient: with the building-material threshold lowered, a base by the water finally becomes practical. You no longer have to raise a high-Gathering Pal just to get a few pieces of bark.

Palworld Fishing: Frequently Asked Questions
Did 1.0.5 add any new fishing content?
A: No. v1.0.5 (2026-09-15) fixed two things only — textures loading at low resolution, and map icon filters being disabled after respawn. Every fishing change comes from v1.0.4 (2026-09-07).
Was fishing difficulty raised or lowered?
A: The official notes say only “adjusted fishing difficulty at fishing spots in Sunreach and the World Tree”, with no direction and no figures. Both regions feel different in practice from the starting waters, so practise in the basic zones first.
Which bait should I stockpile?
A: v1.0.4 calculates “items obtained per successful catch for each bait” separately, so success rate and yield per catch no longer move together. Test them against your goal — materials or rare fish — instead of choosing on price alone.
Can fish behavior during fishing be changed?
A: Yes. v1.0.4 added “Fish behavior in the fishing minigame” under World Settings. Adjust it yourself in single-player; on a multiplayer server the admin sets it.
Palworld 1.0.5 Action Checklist and Patch Note Cross-Reference
- Update to v1.0.5 and confirm the texture resolution issue is fixed.
- Practise in the basic waters first to get used to the new on-screen instructions and recommended-gear prompts.
- Then move into Sunreach and the World Tree for rare fish.
- Re-test your bait on success rate × yield per catch; do not just stockpile the most expensive one.
- Set fish behavior in single-player; on a server, agree on the settings with the admin first.
- For a waterside base, build campfires and storage first — campfires no longer set Pals alight.
