A lot of people pull her and their first reaction is: why is the damage so low, did I pull the wrong unit? You didn't. You just put her in the wrong slot. She was never the one standing at the front posting big numbers.
According to the official 4.6 update notes, 4.6 "Before Moonrise, Dance with the Beasts" went live on September 28, and the patch cycle ends at 07:00 on November 11. In that window only three things carry a hard deadline: the limited-time double drops from the Calyx, the "Love, Ghosts and Robots" event, and the discount prices on two outfits — all expiring at 03:59 on November 11. Pearl is this patch's new 5-star, and our quick-reference Honkai: Star Rail Pearl team comps chart lives in GameHub's Star Rail section.

What Pearl Actually Does on a Team
Her role is easy to grasp. 5-star Elation, Ice element, defensive type; her core resource is 【Well Played, Well Paid】, which she can spend to absorb damage for the whole team. Her Ultimate matters even more: it advances one ally's action, and when the condition is met it grants them an extra turn as well. That turn banks a pile of Punchline and 【Well Played, Well Paid】, heals the whole team and clears debuffs at the same time.
Shielding, action advance, debuff cleansing — they sound like three separate abilities, but in practice they're one thing: pulling the team's turn order back from "interrupted" to "on schedule." Elation teams build damage slowly through Punchline and combos, and the moment your main DPS gets controlled or interrupted, the whole round they had banked is wasted. Pearl's job is to make that accident happen less often. She isn't there to win the fight; she's there to keep you from losing it ugly.
There is a precondition, though. That extra turn goes to exactly one person, so the team needs a burst slot worth pushing — otherwise the pull means nothing. If your damage is spread evenly, her Ultimate is worth no more than a shield, and its value shrinks on the spot. Before you build the team, ask yourself one question: who in my lineup is actually worth pushing?

Pearl Team Comps: Two Approaches, Pick Your Flavor
The standard Elation team is your main DPS plus Pearl, then a buffer and a sustain. Pearl handles defense and cleansing, the buffer adds Punchline or ATK, and the main DPS unloads during the turn she advances. If you don't run a second sustain, her shield has to hold all the way to your main DPS's action, so speed-tune her to be a little faster than your DPS.
The other option is dual DPS. Pearl acts as half a sustain, trading one shield slot for one extra damage slot. The ceiling is higher and the margin for error is lower — it only works for people who have maxed their Relics and can brute-force mechanics with raw damage. If you're just starting out, don't rush it; get the first comp running smoothly first.

How to Build Light Cones and Relics
Team settled, next is gear. Plenty of people get this order backwards from the very start.
The new 4.6 5-star Light Cone "Colors for Tomorrow (Elation)" comes from the Light Cone event warp "Flowing Light, Lasting Shadow." Same patch, made for each other — sounds like a must-pull. But for a defensive unit like Pearl, the Light Cone actually ranks below Relics. If your main stats are wrong, no Light Cone can patch that back up.
Relic main stats go like this: Body HP% or DEF%, Feet SPD or HP%, Planar Sphere HP%, Link Rope Energy Regeneration Rate. Her shields and healing both scale off HP, so stacking HP gets you there far more directly than stacking DEF; SPD only moves up the list when you need her to shield first.
Substats by value: HP% first, then SPD, then DEF%, then Effect RES. HP% leads because shield strength and healing both calculate from HP; SPD comes second so the shield lands before your main DPS acts. That sliver of speed is often the entire difference between "shield already on" and "shield arrived too late" — and those two feel like completely different games.

Three Hard Deadlines Before November 11
The Calyx double drop is the most urgent. It runs from 11:00 on October 29 to 03:59 on November 11, with limited-time double drops from the Calyx. Trace materials are exactly what 4.7's new characters will be starved for, so spend these four days on Traces, not Credits. Four days of double drops — miss it and you wait a whole patch. However you do the math, that's a loss.
"Love, Ghosts and Robots" also ends at 03:59 on November 11. On the outfit side, "Warmth Beyond the Clouds" is discounted to 1,350 Oneiric Shards from 1,680, and "Moon Awaits the Bloom" to 2,680 Stellar Jade from 3,280. Outfits don't touch combat power: buy them if you like them, but don't let the word "limited" talk you into it.
After that comes 4.7. Once the patch drops, the "Spirit-Gathering Star Forge" shop adds the limited 5-star Honkai: Star Rail 4.7 Jiaoqiu, exchangeable with Travel Companion Golden Spirits; the Light Cone shop adds "Those Countless Springs (Nihility)", exchangeable with Light Cone Shard Memory. If you've been sitting on Gold Spirits, just exchange them right after November 11 — no need to wait for a rerun.

Is Pearl Worth Building?
Back to the question from the start: you pulled her, so do you build her?
It depends on why you pulled. She's a system unit: without an Elation main DPS on the team, a 4-star sustain can replace both her shield and her cleanse. So if you pulled her because you want to play an Elation team, build her properly to level 80. If she just happened to come home, park her and save your resources for 4.7 — that's the better trade.
If resources are tight, go in this order: Traces, level, Relics, Light Cone. Of the Traces, max the two that add shield strength and healing first; the rest can stop at level 8.
Whether to build her ultimately has little to do with tier lists. The patch is called "Before Moonrise, Dance with the Beasts" — romantic enough — but we only have four days left. If you genuinely want to run an Elation team, Pearl is the brick that pins the whole thing down. If you only came along for the noise, then no matter how high the numbers go, she's one more splash art in your inventory. You already know which one you are.

Honkai: Star Rail FAQ: Common Questions About Pearl
Can Pearl work as a main DPS?
A: No. She's a defensive character and damage output isn't part of her design target; forced into a main DPS slot she deals roughly a third of a normal main DPS's damage.
Should Relics stack DEF or HP?
A: HP. Both shield strength and healing calculate from HP; DEF% is only a substat filler and ranks below HP%.
With Calyx double drops, should I farm Traces or Relics?
A: Traces. Trace materials are a hard requirement for 4.7's new characters, and 4.7 brings new Relic domains — farming Relics now risks duplicating what you'll farm later.
Should I pull before 4.7?
A: Not recommended. The 4.6 banner closes at 07:00 on November 11, and both 4.7's new characters and the Jiaoqiu exchange come after that. Saving tickets for 4.7 is the better value.
How much speed should she be tuned to?
Pearl's speed target is "slightly faster than your main DPS." Elation main DPS units usually sit in the 134–145 SPD range, so tuning Pearl to 146–150 lets her reliably shield first. If you can't reach that window, don't force it — hand shield uptime over to Ultimate timing instead. These numbers come from community speed-tuning tests; in practice your team's action order is what decides.
Does Pearl need her signature Light Cone?
A: No. Defensive units don't lean on their Light Cone much; a 4-star Abundance or Preservation cone is plenty. Save the Stellar Jade for your main DPS.
