miHoYo has dated Zenless Zone Zero 3.3 for October 21, splitting two new S-Rank Agents across the version and adding pilotable mech combat for the first time. In the same week, Genshin Impact's 7.1 storyline still has two Ice banners running, and Arknights' main story chapter 17 pushed the game to the top of Japan's Google Play revenue chart. October is a volley, not a single release.
3.3 arrives October 21: two new S-Ranks, split across halves
The 3.3 schedule puts Phoenix in the first half and Severian in the second, each paired with a signature W-Engine.
First half: Phoenix, a Fire Anomaly agent who gets back up
Phoenix is an S-Rank Fire Anomaly Agent whose Core Skill, Nirvana, sears enemies already afflicted by an Anomaly, allowing the follow-up Anomaly damage to land as a critical hit. Her more unusual trait is forgiveness: a fatal strike does not take her off the field, she triggers Rebirth and returns on the spot at full health. The S-Rank W-Engine Plume of Rebirth arrives alongside her, with Velina and the W-Engine Joyau Dore returning as reruns.
Second half: Severian, a Wind Attack agent built on auto-dodges
Severian is a senior commissioner at New Eridu Public Security. His Core Skill, Endless Breeze, automatically dodges an incoming attack and rides the momentum into a counter, and successful dodges or specific hits build Energy for heavier continuous slashes. He debuts with the S-Rank W-Engine Incarcerating Grip, while Norma and the W-Engine Chief Sidekick rerun in the same half.
The real addition is mech combat
Version 3.3 introduces a new combat layer in the main story: using Lindverne's Karma Core power, "Genesis Reconstruction," High Ambitions Corp. combat mechs are built and the Proxy pilots them directly.
Melee and ranged on demand, plus a laser after an EX Special
The mechs switch freely between melee and ranged modes, and after an EX Special Attack or a successful dodge they can fire a stronger laser. Environmental interaction is part of the design too: detonating explosives or throwing a heavy punch to launch objects makes both combat and puzzling smoother. miHoYo says the gameplay will continue in future versions, so it is not a one-off story set piece.
Beyond the banners: outfits, events and a permanent mode
Phoenix's two new outfits sell as a limited-time bundle at 30% off, and Severian's everyday uniform, Solemnly Impeccable, arrives when his channel opens in the second half. The update also adds avatars, dynamic wallpapers and trust events for both Agents.
A new seasonal trial for the labyrinth mode
Version events include Night of Supernatural Tricks in Lumina Square, a new VR title called Spooky Funhouse Tales at the HIA Club, plus Cyber Miracle Healer on Duty, Trails of the Hobbling Crow and Repair! Drifting Art. Rewards include an Angels of Delusion outfit, a new A-Rank W-Engine and Proxy accessories, and the Area Patrol and Combat Simulation double-drop events return. The permanent Hollow mode, Enigma of the Labyrinth, gets a seasonal update titled Spooky Trial, with three progressive rounds issued by an instructor calling himself Master Devil.
The rest of the anime week: Genshin 7.1 and Arknights chapter 17
Two other titles are running their own schedules in the same week.
Genshin Impact 7.1: two Ice banners running
miHoYo's official announcement API shows Genshin Impact 7.1 is live with two Ice characters on rate-up: Skirk and Escoffier, plus a weapon banner running one five-star sword and one five-star polearm, all from October 8, 2026 (Chinese banner names: 虚星临渡 / 莓色香颂 / 神铸赋形).
Arknights main story chapter 17
Arknights has published main story chapter 17 (titled Sōhen Rinkai in the Japanese release), bringing Kal'tsit and other characters into the playable roster. Japanese Google Play chart coverage dated October 15, 2026 placed the game first in revenue that day.
Risk check: three games reaching into the same wallet
Two new S-Ranks, two rerun W-Engines and a discounted outfit bundle is about as many payment points as one version can hold. Genshin Impact meanwhile has two Ice banners live, and Arknights is pushing a new story chapter, so players running two or three of these games are looking at a continuous stretch of spending in late October and will need to rank priorities.
One caveat worth stating plainly: miHoYo's 3.3 information has circulated mainly through English-language announcements and overseas outlets, and an official Chinese name and published rates have not been synced, so the official announcement remains the authority.
Where this leaves us: anime gacha competes on systems
The most memorable part of 3.3 is not the two new Agents but mech combat and the seasonal refresh of a permanent mode. Characters can compete on stats and art; systems cannot. When a live-service anime game starts treating "one new mode per version" as the baseline, what it is selling stops being pulls and starts being production capacity.More anime game coverage at GameHub.
